Baby Great White Sharks

Great white sharks are Ovoviviparous. Gestation is estimated to be 12 months with 2-3 years between pregnancies. Ovoviviparous animals produce eggs that develop within the female’s body. The hatched eggs eat unfertilized eggs for nourishment. Shortly after the egg hatches the shark pup is born. Litter sizes range from 2-10 pups and pups can measure up to 5 feet at birth! There is no parental care- pups must fend for themselves right from birth.
